The Hillsdale City Council will hold a special meeting later this month to publicly discuss plans for a Traffic Calming initiative, or “Road Diet.”
Back on August 18th, the Council voted 5-3 to submit a grant application to the Michigan Department of Transportation for funding to undertake the project through downtown.
If the grant is approved, the money would also pay for the reconstruction of a section of Carleton Road, along with making repairs and improvements to other city infrastructure.
That work would be in addition to re-marking traffic lanes on Broad Street to improve safety for pedestrians and motorists.
Councilman Matt Bentley has been a vocal opponent of the project, at one point saying it’s his goal to “kill” it.
Bentley called for the special meeting, with the support of Councilman Jacob Bruns.
The meeting will be held on September 10th, at 7:00 pm, at the Hillsdale Community Library.
