A police standoff ended late Tuesday night after a man barricaded himself inside a Cambria Township home following a series of distress calls, authorities said.
The incident began when the man called 911, claiming there were a number of people in his yard on North Sand Dunes Drive.
Responding officers spoke with the man, but found no one on his property.
A law enforcement source tells WCSR News that the man was pleasant and cooperative during the initial contact.
However, two hours later, a neighbor called 911, reporting that the man was shooting rounds into the air at the back of his house.
Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Deputies were the first to arrive on the scene.
The man refused to exit the house, prompting deputies to request assistance from the Michigan State Police Emergency Response Team.
The team arrived around 10:00 pm. They were able to extract the man, who was taken to Hillsdale Hospital for a mental health evaluation.
Once cleared, he is expected to face charges of reckless discharge of a firearm.
