Authorities say drunk and distracted driving were factors in a crash involving a car and tractor trailer in Jonesville, Wednesday afternoon.
Jonesville Police Chief Mike Lance tells WCSR News that officers were dispatched to a report of an injury accident at M-99 and Industrial Drive around 3:00 p.m.
They arrived to find that a passenger car driven by 19-year-old Kaylen Luke, of Hillsdale, had collided with a tractor-trailer driven by 32-year-old Carmond Smith, of Ypsilanti.
Lance said Smith had been northbound on M-99 and was completing a left turn onto westbound Industrial Drive when his trailer was struck.
Luke’s car sustained heavy damage to the front end. The vehicle’s airbags deployed.
There were no serious injuries.
After failing field sobriety tests, Luke was taken to Hillsdale Hospital for a blood draw.
She was then booked into the Hillsdale County Jail on one count of operating intoxicated.
She was released on a $5,000 bond. Lance said Luke also admitted to being on her phone at the time of the crash.
