State Sees Slight Reduction In Unemployment Numbers

Michigan’s unemployment rate dropped slightly in August.
The rate of 5.2 percent was down one-tenth of a percentage point from July, according to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.
Labor analyst Wayne Rourke said the unemployment rate decreased mainly because fewer people were actively seeking employment.
Despite that, the number of payroll jobs remained steady.
Michigan’s unemployment rate is nearly a full percentage point higher than the U.S. rate of 4.3 percent, up slightly from July.
Michigan has now lost workers for five consecutive months.
Analysts say that since March 2025, the total number of people working or looking for work has decreased by 38,000.
Local unemployment numbers for August will be released later this month.
