Local unemployment numbers decreased across Michigan last month.
Hillsdale County reported a 5.4 percent unemployment rate in August. That’s down from 6.4 percent in July—reversing a trend of rising unemployment over the past three months.
Wayne Rourke of the Michigan Center for Data & Analytics said all of the state’s major labor markets saw decreases.
Some of the decrease could be attributed to fewer job seekers in the market.
Hillsdale County ranked 30th out of Michigan’s 83 counties for the lowest unemployment rate in August.
Branch County ranked 13th with a 4.7 percent jobless rate.
Lenawee County posted a 5.5 percent unemployment rate.
Jackson County was at 5.8 percent and Calhoun County dropped to 6.3 percent
The monthly unemployment report is compiled by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.
