Toll Scams Target Local Residents

Toll scams are on the rise across the region, with scammers sending fraudulent text messages claiming that recipients have unpaid tolls to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
The messages attempt to trick individuals into sending money to settle a nonexistent balance. It is important to note that there are no toll roads in Michigan.
And while there are tolls on the Mackinac Bridge, the Blue Water Bridge, and the International Bridge, those invoices are sent via the US Postal Service. They’re not sent by text or email.
If you receive such a text, it’s recommended that you do not respond or provide any personal information. Simply delete the text.
If you feel you’ve been a victim of a scam, contact local law enforcement.
