Authorities Urge Car/Deer Accident Awareness

Car-deer accidents can happen at any time of year, but as we head into the busiest time for deer activity, authorities are reminding motorists to be aware.
Deer activity typically picks up during the mating season, between October and December—not surprisingly, that’s when most car-deer crashes occur.
You can avoid a dangerous encounter with a deer by following a few safety tips.
Watch for deer, especially at dawn and dusk.
If you see one deer near the road, assume more are close behind.
If a collision with a deer is unavoidable: do not swerve!  Brake firmly, hold the steering wheel with both hands, and come to a controlled stop.
A number of motorists are injured each year when they lose control after swerving to avoid a deer.
