Colder Weather Means Increased Carbon Monoxide Risk

With fall here, and colder weather in the near future, it’s time for a reminder about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas that often goes undetected, striking victims when they’re caught off guard or in their sleep. It can be caused by an improperly functioning furnace or by using other fuel-burning appliances inside or near a home.
Hundreds of people in the U.S. die from unintentional carbon monoxide poisoning every year.
More than 20,000 visit the emergency room, and more than 4,000 others are hospitalized.
Every home should have working carbon monoxide detectors placed adequately on all floors, near sleeping areas.
