Wortz Co-Sponsors Anti-Pornography Legislation

35th District State Representative Jennifer Wortz has co-sponsored a bill that would make it illegal to create, distribute, or view online pornography in Michigan.

The “Anticorruption of Public Morals Act,” was recently referred to the House Judiciary Committee.

It would classify the production or distribution of pornography as a felony.

The Bill’s lead sponsor, Representative Josh Schriver and co-sponsors, including Wortz, introduced the bill last month. Schriver said on social media that the bill aims to prevent pornography from being made, shared, or viewed, and would add distributors to the sex offender registry.

If enacted, internet service providers and platforms would be required to block and filter pornographic material. The bill also proposes creating an attorney general-led task force to investigate violations and manage a public reporting system for residents’ complaints.

The legislation includes exceptions for material used for scientific or medical research.

The move aligns with recent efforts in Michigan and other states to restrict access to explicit content for minors and regulate online material.
