Jonesville-Area Solar Project Funds Educational Initiatives

Four educational projects at Jonesville Community Schools will receive grants through The Heartwood Solar Fund.

The fund, part of the Hillsdale County Community Foundation, has awarded $6,686 to support playground activities, STEM education, professional development, and student safety.

The projects include a Ball Pit at Williams Elementary, funded with $4,200 and intended for over 550 K–5 students.

Judy Warner received $778 to buy a 3D printer to enhance STEM learning. Caitlin Zaumseil was granted $528 for trauma and resilience certification training to support student mental health. School Nurse Beth Ballinger received $1,180 to replace a 20-year-old AED, ensuring emergency preparedness.

Brady Friss is the development manager at Ranger Power LLC. He said the Heartwood Solar Fund has invested more than $30,000 in the area since May 2023.

The funds have supported 14 projects and local food programs. The fund plans to establish a permanent endowment once the Heartwood Solar Project begins commercial operations.
