The Michigan State Police is now accepting applications from licensed police officers for its 151st Trooper Recruit School, set to start in July 2026.
The 12-week lateral entry program offers an accelerated training track for experienced officers, running concurrently with the traditional 152nd Trooper Recruit School.
Graduates of the lateral program will complete training early, recognizing their prior law enforcement experience.
MSP director Colonel James F. Grady II said, “Modernizing the recruiting and training processes continues to be a priority” for the agency.
He also highlighted recent pay raises, including a 20% increase for troopers and sergeants, along with competitive benefits and promotional opportunities. The raises were aimed at making a career with MSP more attractive.
Applicants must have at least two years of continuous experience as a licensed officer in good standing with the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards or obtain recognition of prior training if from out of state.
