Michigan State Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in a burning car in Somerset Township on Monday afternoon.
Somerset Police and Firefighters were dispatched to Sandhill Road, just east of Baker Road, around 4:45 pm.
Police Chief John Gessner told WCSR News that an officer arrived to find a car engulfed in flames. Fire crews extinguished the blaze–that’s when they found a woman’s body inside the vehicle.
Gessner said the fire was not the result of a traffic crash.
As police were investigating the incident, they received word from the Michigan State Police Jackson post that the vehicle was tied to an earlier incident in Jackson County.
The investigation has been handed over to the MSP Jackson Post; no other details have been released.
Investigators were on the scene for several hours before clearing around 11:00 pm, Monday night.
