A Lenawee County teen who was charged with shooting and killing his mother’s boyfriend while the two were deer hunting in 2023 has agreed to a plea deal in the case
18-year-old Trenton Berry, of Rollin Township, was charged with open murder in the death of 41-year-old Kirt Stubbins, of Addison, during a November 2023 hunting trip in Rollin Township.
The incident was initially reported as a possible hunting accident.
After further investigation, the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Department determined the shooting was intentional.
Berry was officially charged in May of 2024. He was evaluated and found competent to stand trial earlier this year.
He pleaded no contest to second-degree murder in Lenawee County Circuit Court on Monday.
Berry will be sentenced in January.
