A fire destroyed a home in the city of Jonesville on Wednesday night.
Jonesville Firefighters were dispatched to 228 West Chicago Street at 6:33 pm.
Public Safety Director Mike Lance told WCSR News that Jonesville Police Sergeant David Martin was the first on scene.
He arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the two-story home.
Two residents of the home were safely outside. They informed Sergeant Martin that a male resident was still inside the house. The man was unable to get out on his own due to a recent fall from a tree stand.
Martin rushed into the burning structure and assisted the man in evacuating safely.
The Litchfield and Hillsdale City fire departments were called to assist.
A video posted online showed flames shooting from the home’s roof and windows.
Lance said crews quickly knocked down the flames. They had the fire under control shortly after 7:00 pm.
There were no reports of any serious injuries to any of the human occupants. However, a family dog died after being trapped on the second floor.
Crews were on the scene for about three hours, clearing just after 10:30 pm.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
