Wednesday Fire Destroys Jonesville Home

A fire destroyed a home in the city of Jonesville on Wednesday night. 
Jonesville Firefighters were dispatched to 228 West Chicago Street at 6:33 pm. 
Public Safety Director Mike Lance told WCSR News that Jonesville Police Sergeant David Martin was the first on scene. 
He arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the two-story home. 
Two residents of the home were safely outside. They informed Sergeant Martin that a male resident was still inside the house. The man was unable to get out on his own due to a recent fall from a tree stand. 
Martin rushed into the burning structure and assisted the man in evacuating safely. 
The Litchfield and Hillsdale City fire departments were called to assist. 
A video posted online showed flames shooting from the home’s roof and windows. 
Lance said crews quickly knocked down the flames. They had the fire under control shortly after 7:00 pm. 
There were no reports of any serious injuries to any of the human occupants. However, a family dog died after being trapped on the second floor.  
Crews were on the scene for about three hours, clearing just after 10:30 pm. 
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
