Hillsdale City Council To Discuss Streets At Special Meeting

The Hillsdale City Council will hold a special meeting next month to discuss funding options for repairing the city’s streets.
At their most recent meeting, the council held a lengthy discussion about the possibility of re-establishing a committee that was initially established to study funding options.
Mayor Scott Sessions proposed re-establishing the FAIR Committee. He said discussions with voters,  during his recent election campaign, showed that there was an interest in re-visiting the city’s street funding mechanisms.
After a lengthy debate on the issue, council members reached a consensus that re-establishing the Fair Committee is unnecessary because it would likely duplicate the duties of the Public Services Committee, which meets regularly.
Instead, the council voted to hold a Committee of the Whole meeting on December 8th.
City Manager David Mackie said he and city staff will create a presentation on the current condition of the streets, along with all available options for funding. The information will be presented to the Committee of the Whole.
Council members will use the ideas and information gained in the public meeting to determine the next step in improving the streets.
