Shift In Polar Vortex Could Bring Arctic Blast To Tri State Area

Southern Michigan could be in for a cold snap and more snow in the very near future.
Some forecast models are predicting the possibility of winter-like weather arriving around Thanksgiving and lasting into early December.
Scientists are watching for a potential shift in the polar vortex, a swirling mass of cold air that usually stays near the North Pole. If the vortex weakens, it could allow frigid air to push south into Michigan.
This means colder temperatures and a greater chance of lake-effect snow, as cold air blows over the warmer water.
While some earlier forecasts initially pointed to milder weather for late November, recent predictions suggest an Arctic blast is now expected around Thanksgiving.
The cold pattern is likely to persist into early December, keeping temperatures below normal across the region.
