Area Food Banks Working To Combat Food Insecurity

Local food banks are scrambling to meet community needs in the wake of federal cuts and rising food prices.
In a recent interview, Pastor Kara Shaw of Trinity Lutheran Church told WCSR News that the church’s food pantry, King’s Kupboard, is seeing increased need this year.
She said the increase can be attributed, in part, to rising food costs.
Shaw said that while prices continue to rise, wages aren’t keeping up.
She said cuts to federal food programs are also having a local impact.
Shaw said the majority of clients at King’s Kupboard are considered among the “working poor”-Those who have jobs but don’t earn enough to make ends meet.
She said some clients come from two-parent families where both parents have more than one job.
King’s Kupboard is one of several food banks that are working to serve Hillsdale County residents in need.
