The Michigan Attorney General’s office Dana is warning veterans about a scam involving fake postcards. Some veterans have received postcards claiming they are eligible for extra benefits. The postcards look real but are designed to steal personal information. Scammers ask veterans to call a phone number to get benefits or rewards. When veterans share details like Social Security or bank account numbers, the scammers can steal their money or identity. Officials recommend checking with a veteran service officer or calling the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency at 800-MICH-VET (800-642-4838) before giving any personal info. Veterans who think they’ve been scammed can file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission or contact the Attorney General’s office at 517-335-7599. Michigan has more than 486,000 veterans.
