Quincy Couple Charged With Child Abuse

A Quincy couple was ordered held on $200,000 bond on charges stemming from a number of allegations of  child abuse.

Matthew Boatrite and Cassandra Boatrite were arrested Thursday after an investigation by Child Protective Services and the Michigan State Police out of the Marshall Post.

Both suspects are charged with several counts each of second-degree child abuse, assault by strangulation and fourth degree child abuse, along with two counts each of domestic violence. 

Matthew Boatrite, who had served as a reserve officer with the Quincy Police Department, was also charged with assault with a weapon, and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. 

The Quincy Police Department issued a statement following the arrest, saying Boatrite is no longer with the department, effective immediately. 

The most serious charges carry up to ten years in prison. 

The couple was arraigned Thursday in Branch County District Court.
