A Litchfield man was arrested Monday in Fremont, Indiana, on several charges related to marijuana and controlled substance possession.

According to the Herald-Republican newspaper, 37-year-old Justin Stemen was taken into custody after Fremont Deputy Chief Travis Smoker detected a strong smell of marijuana coming from his vehicle.

Stemen was parked at the Eagle One Stop gas station on State Road 120 at the time of the incident

Officer Smoker called for backup. A second officer confirmed the smell of marijuana.

Upon further investigation, the officers found a bag of cannabis gummies on the dash of Stemen’s van. The search also turned up  jars of marijuana, more THC gummies, marijuana wax, a grinder, and a pipe.

Stemen was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. If convicted, he could face up to two and a half years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Although it has been legal in Michigan for a number of years, marijuana remains illegal in Indiana.
