With tax season approaching, authorities are reminding listeners to be aware of a rise in tax related scams this time of year.
The I.R.S Tax Scam involves a caller claiming to be with the Internal Revenue Service–The caller tells the intended victim that they owe a sizeable tax bill and could lose their home or business if they don’t pay up immediately–
Officials remind listeners that the I.R.S won’t make initial contact by phone about past due taxes– They’ll use the postal service.
Also a legitimate organization will not ask for payment via prepaid card or other indirect method.
As always never give personal or banking information over the phone to an unsolicited caller–
