Hunters in Hillsdale and Branch counties are among those in 40 lower peninsula counties that have an extended opportunity to harvest antlerless deer.
Michigan’s extended late antlerless firearm deer season kicked off Friday and runs through January 11th.
Tags for the special season cost $5.
During the season, hunters can harvest up to 10 antlerless deer, with one deer per valid kill tag. Various license types can be used, including unused single deer licenses, deer combo licenses, and universal antlerless deer licenses.
The late season is aimed at reducing the deer population, in an effort to control disease and ecological damage, along with reducing the number of car deer crashes in the region.
