January is Radon Action Month– and the Branch-Hillsdale-Saint Joseph Community Health Agency is offering free tests to help residents determine their potential risk.
Radon is an odorless, tasteless, radioactive gas that occurs naturally in soil and rock.
While there are no short-term side effects to radon exposure, long-term exposure increases the risk of developing lung cancer–(according to the Surgeon General, it’s the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. and the leading cause among non-smokers.)
Testing is easy, inexpensive and the only way to know if a home has a radon problem.
