A three-day weekend for Martin Luther King Jr. Day turned into an unscheduled winter break for area students, who got their third snow day in a row.
Heavy snowfall this morning caused whiteout conditions and left roads drifted and treacherous.
Area school administrators opted to cancel classes for a third day rather than risk students’ and others’ safety on the roads.
Friday’s forecast calls for extreme cold, with wind chills of 15 to 25 below zero. The National Weather Service has issued a cold weather advisory, effective from 4:00 am to 1:00 pm Friday.
