Area school kids got their fifth snow day, and tenth consecutive day off today, thanks to a snowstorm that hit the region early Sunday.
Students in southern Michigan were among millions in a huge swath of the U.S. to get a snow day, after a massive system dropped snow and ice from Dallas, Texas to New England. Southern Michigan is at the northern edge of the system, which was expected to drop nearly two feet of snow on Boston.
Several inches of new snow has fallen over the past 36 hours, making roads very slippery.
Colder temperatures have limited the effectiveness of salt.
Temperatures are expected to drop again, later today.
The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory from 6:00 o’clock this evening, through 10:00 am Tuesday.
