Michigan AG Warns Of Identity Theft

wcsr-dale-news-header-2
The Michigan Attorney General’s office is warning residents about the signs of identity theft during Identity Theft Awareness Week. Identity theft occurs when someone uses another person’s personal information, such as Social Security numbers or credit card details, without permission. This can lead to serious financial problems for the victim.
The issue affects many Michigan residents each year and can cause lasting damage.
The alert highlights warning signs such as missing mail, unexplained bank withdrawals, or being denied credit. To help protect yourself, officials also recommend:
– Using credit cards instead of checks, as they offer more protection against fraud.
– Shredding papers with a micro-cut shredder.
– Checking your credit report regularly and considering credit monitoring services.
Officials have also launched the Michigan Identity Theft Support System, a resource to help residents recover their stolen identities. For more information, visit the Michigan Attorney General’s website at michigan.gov/ag
