Hillsdale County students and organizations are working together this month to raise awareness about teen dating violence.
The Hillsdale County Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council has teamed up with Domestic Harmony to promote Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month in February.
To spread the message, local students wore purple socks during select varsity basketball games. Cheerleaders also wore purple bows to help spark conversations about healthy relationships. The national theme for 2026 is “Real Love Respects.”
The campaign is aimed at emphasizing respect, communication, boundaries, and safety in teen dating.
Danielle Templeton with Domestic Harmony said, “Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month is a reminder that students deserve relationships based on trust and respect.”
In addition to the sock campaign, Domestic Harmony and the Community Foundation Youth are encouraging people to wear purple on February 25 for Purple Day. The day aims to show support for healthy relationships and violence prevention.
Domestic Harmony offers educational programs and presentations to schools and community groups.
