Hillsdale Special Assessment Districts Dead Following Hearings

wcsr-dale-news-header-2
The City of Hillsdale will not move forward with creating Special Assessment Districts to fund three street projects.
The City Council held public hearings on the projects at its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday.
The work would have included the reconstruction of Arch Avenue, Industrial Drive, and Proctor Drive at a cost of about $1.3 million.
work on a section of South Street, from South Broad Street to Reading Avenue, with an estimated cost of $775,000; and a $1.3-million reconstruction of a section of Oak Street.
City Staff had recommended against going ahead with the work on South Street and Oak Street, after property owners collected enough signatures ahead of Monday’s public hearing to require a supermajority vote of seven members of council to move forward.
During Monday’s meeting, Matt Patilo, who owns property in the proposed district on Arch Ave, turned in enough signatures to require a super majority on that project as well.
In response, Council took no action on resolutions to create the Special Assessment Districts, allowing the issue to die.
There’s no word yet on where the city’s portion of the funding for the three projects will be redirected.
