The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is offering free naloxone kits at its local offices to help save lives from opioid overdoses. Naloxone is a medication that quickly reverses overdose symptoms and has already helped save thousands of lives in Michigan.
MDHHS Chief Medical Executive, Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, said Michigan has experienced a 35% decrease in opioid overdose deaths since 2023, thanks in part to the availability of Naloxone. Residents can visit their local MDHHS office during business hours to request free naloxone kits, while supplies last. The medication is easy to store and simple to use.
Michigan’s Good Samaritan Law shields those who administer it from legal action.
Since 2020, Michigan has distributed more than 1.7 million naloxone kits and recorded over 34,000 overdose reversals. Free kits are also available at harm reduction agencies, vending machines, pharmacies, and through mail order.
