Hillsdale County to Hold Special School Elections In May

Many Hillsdale County residents will head to the polls on May 5th to vote on school bond proposals or millage renewals.
Reading Community Schools is seeking approval to replace a previous sinking fund millage with a new one, allowing the district to raise about $398,000 per year for five years. The funds would be used for school security, technology upgrades, transportation, and maintaining school facilities.
Hillsdale Community Schools and North Adams-Jerome Schools are asking voters to renew their operating millages.
The proposals include a $14.8-million bond for the Columbia School District, which would fund new school buildings, renovations, and playground improvements. The Columbia School District includes portions of Somerset Township.
The Hanover-Horton School District, which includes parts of Moscow and Somerset Townships, wants to borrow up to $3.9 million to remodel and upgrade facilities.
Quincy Community Schools is proposing a $60 million bond to build and renovate schools and athletic fields. The Quincy District includes a portion of Allen Township.
