Authorities are awaiting the positive identification of the victim before releasing more information in a fatal traffic crash that occurred Wednesday night in Somerset Township.
Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to US 12 near Baker Road just before 8:00 pm.
Initial investigation determined a 2018 Buick Encore was Westbound on US 12 when it left the road and struck a tree.
The car caught fire.
Authorities located the victim in the vehicle after the Somerset Township fire department extinguished the blaze.
The Sheriff’s Department is working with the Lenawee-Hillsdale Medical Examiner’s office to positively identify the victim.
That stretch of US 12 was shut down for some time as the accident was investigated.
