A longtime local landmark business will close its doors this month.
After 85 years of serving the community, the Hillsdale Market House will close its doors on March 29th.
Owner Brett Boyd made the announcement to WCSR News on Monday morning.
The store, along with Sharon’s House of Pancakes, Underdog’s Sliders, Spirits & Sports, Krispy Krunchy Chicken, and Blimpie Subs & Salads, will suspend operations.
However, Anytime Fitness and Biggby Coffee will remain open.
For decades, the Market House has been a vital part of Hillsdale County, supporting local nonprofits, schools, churches, and community events. The store’s contributions helped fund Independence Day celebrations, sports teams, and charities. During the pandemic, the Market House’s efforts to serve the community earned widespread appreciation.
Boyd thanked store associates for their support over the years. Several of the employees, whom he said were part of the family, have worked at the store for many years,
Starting Tuesday, many products will be discounted by 25%, with remaining items reduced by 50% from March 27th through 29th. After that, leftover inventory may be donated to local food pantries or transferred to the Hudson location.
Boyd said his family invites the community to visit Sharon’s, Underdogs, and Krispy Krunchy Chicken through March 28th to enjoy meals and celebrate the store’s historic place in Hillsdale.
He said the property is available for lease or sale, with discussions underway to bring back popular departments like the bakery, meat, and liquor sections.
Boyd said the decision to close was a difficult one, but it was made with gratitude for the support of customers and vendors over the years.
