Grass Fire Burns More Than Fifteen Acres Monday

wcsr-dale-news-header-2
Firefighters from three departments battled a grass fire in Cambria Township on Monday.
Hillsdale Township firefighters were called to the 3300 block of Cambria Road, just before noon
Chief Mike Rose told WCSR News that about 15 to 20 acres of grass had burned by the time crews arrived.
The Hillsdale City and Reading Fire Departments were called in to assist.
Crews were on the scene for about an hour. There was no significant property damage.
Rose said the incident is a reminder that the grass fire season has arrived.
While the ground may be wet, the danger comes from what are known as one-hour fuels, which include grass and other materials that dry out quickly and can easily catch fire within one hour of rain.
Residents are advised to wait until the grass “greens up” before burning outdoors.
Even then, never burn when it’s windy and never leave a fire unattended
