Emergency officials will test the outdoor warning sirens across Hillsdale County this evening.
The test comes after tornadoes hit Wayne County and Defiance, Ohio, on Saturday. Both storms were classified as EF-1. Both were on the ground for more than three miles, damaging homes and businesses. They followed deadly tornadoes in March that hit Branch and Cass counties. Those storms killed four people and destroyed buildings near Union City and Three Rivers.
The sirens are meant to alert people outside to seek shelter quickly.
Officials say sirens are only part of safety. People should also:
– Have a plan, and know where to seek shelter from a tornado.
– Stay tuned to local radio, and sign up for phone alerts to stay informed.
– Act fast and go to a safe spot if a storm is nearby or if a siren sounds.
The sirens will be tested between 6:00 and 6:30 this evening.
