Two local students have been awarded the 2026 Doris Whorley Nursing Scholarship by Hillsdale Hospital to help fund their college educations.

The recipients are Madelyn Jordon of Horton, a recent Hanover-Horton High School graduate, and Icelyn Trumble of Hillsdale, a student at Will Carleton Academy. Both recipients are already working in the healthcare field as certified nursing assistants.

The scholarship provides up to $10,000 per year for up to five years. It supports students pursuing either a two-year associate degree or a four-year bachelor’s degree in nursing. In return for the financial aid, both recipients have committed to working at Hillsdale Hospital after they graduate.

Jordon plans to attend Spring Arbor University this fall, fulfilling a lifelong dream to work in healthcare. Trumble, a first-generation college student, is already working toward her nursing degree at Jackson College.

Hospital officials praised both students for their academic success, high school leadership, and passion for patient care. Named after the hospital’s current director of risk management, the scholarship is designed to train future healthcare workers who want to serve their local community.
