Hope Harbor Lawsuit Against City Dismissed

wcsr-dale-news-header-1-2

A federal lawsuit filed against the City of Hillsdale by a local nonprofit group has been dismissed.

HOPE Harbor sued the city back in March. The suit claimed the city violated the Fair Housing Act by rejecting a zoning request to convert a commercial storage building into a sober transitional housing facility.

City officials maintained that the denial was based on longstanding zoning rules and building safety codes, rather than discrimination.

According to federal court records, U.S. District Judge Jane M. Beckering signed an order dismissing the case on June 30th.

The case was dismissed without prejudice, meaning the nonprofit retains the right to file a similar lawsuit in the future.
