Following its expansion into Litchfield, clean-technology company LuxWall has secured financial assistance from the U.S. Department of Energy to expand its manufacturing footprint in Michigan.
According to a recent article in the trade publication US Glass Magazine, the funding, provided through the Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation, will support a new 276,000-square-foot facility in Detroit. Production is scheduled to begin in late 2027, creating up to 277 high-paying jobs.
LuxWall’s growth in Detroit follows its ongoing investments across the state, including its research and development hub in Ypsilanti and its primary production facility, known as “Factory One,” in Litchfield.
The new factory will focus on producing LuxWall’s specialized Transparent Insulation product line, designed to make windows insulate as efficiently as traditional walls.
Scott Thomsen, LuxWall founder and CEO, told USGlass Magazine that standard windows are a major flaw in building design. Thomsen said the federal support will help lower energy costs for home and building owners while boosting energy independence.
