
Local unemployment numbers increased across Michigan last month.
Hillsdale County posted a 6.4 percent unemployment rate in July. That’s up from 6.1 percent in June. It’s the third consecutive monthly increase.
Wayne Rourke of the Michigan Center for Data & Analytics said all of the state’s major labor markets saw increases.
Rourke said the numbers are typical, with seasonal cuts in job markets that include Government and Education.
Hillsdale County ranked 36th out of Michigan’s 83 counties for the lowest unemployment in July. That’s the same ranking as June.
Branch County ranked 14th with a 5.6 percent jobless rate.
Lenawee County posted 6.3 percent unemployment.
Jackson County was at 6.5 percent and Calhoun County surged to 7.4 percent
