Branch County authorities say a domestic incident involving threats to shoot law enforcement officers ended peacefully Tuesday.
Branch County Sheriff’s deputies responded at 7:49 pm to a domestic disturbance in Sherwood Township.
According to Sheriff Fred Blankenship, the caller reported that a man outside a home on Heights Drive had made threats to shoot law enforcement if they arrived. The man had already fired shots at that time.
Upon arrival, deputies confirmed a female victim and a young child were inside the home. Authorities quickly evacuated the occupants and secured the scene. The male suspect had left the scene on a motorcycle before officers arrived.
Deputies later contacted the man by phone and, through negotiations, persuaded him to return and surrender peacefully.
He arrived back on his motorcycle and was taken into custody without further incident. Several firearms were recovered from the home.
The 30-year-old Sherwood man was lodged at the Branch County Jail pending review of charges by the prosecutor’s office.
Assisting agencies included the Michigan State Police, Union City Police Department, Colon Police Department, and Life Care Ambulance.
