Developer Updates Council On Keefer House

Officials with the company that is renovating the historic Keefer House Hotel in downtown Hillsdale say there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, as the project nears substantial completion.
Brant Cohen and Nick Fox with CL Real Estate Development spoke at the most recent Hillsdale City Council meeting.
Fox said renovation work is heading into the final stretch. He said crews will begin drywall work, following a critical inspection that is expected to take place soon.
He estimated the renovations will reach substantial completion by late November or early December.
Fox said once a certificate of occupancy is issued by the building inspector, the developer will begin installing furnishings and equipment. That’s also when training of hotel staff will begin.
Cohen, who has headed the project since its beginning, said the 34-room boutique hotel will draw visitors downtown. He asked the council to extend an Obsolete Properties Rehabilitation exemption, or OPRA, through the end of this year. The current deadline is September 30th.
Council will take action on the request at their next meeting.
CL Real Estate Development began the project back in 2019. It was expected to be completed in 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic, supply and labor issues, and unexpected repairs have put the project years behind schedule.
