Quincy Flour Mill To Cease Operations

A company that operates a flour mill in Quincy says it will cease milling operations at the end of the year.

According to World Grain.com, Star of the West Milling Company has announced it will close its flour mill in Quincy, on or around January 1st

The company cited the facility’s age and relatively small production capacity, along with flat demand for wheat flour,  as reasons for the closure.

Frankenmuth-based Star of the West has operated the mill since 1979.

About 15 employees will be affected by the closure, but the company has offered them positions at its mills in Ligonier, Indiana, and Frankenmuth.

Company officials said that although the flour mill is shutting down, the grain elevator and bulk truck washout service on the site will continue to operate.

The Quincy mill has a long history, dating back to 1863.
