High Turnout Forces Postponement Of Meeting In Fayette Twp

wcsr-dale-news-header-2

A large group of area residents showed up at Monday night’s Fayette Township Planning Commission meeting to speak out against a proposed solar project. The meeting was immediately postponed due to lack of space for all who attended.

According to nosolarfayette.com more than 65 people signed in for the meeting, and many more were there, but the room couldn’t hold everyone.

The postponement was in compliance with the Open Meetings Act, which requires a meeting venue to be large enough to accommodate all who wish to attend.

The large turnout was in response to a massive solar farm project that has been proposed by Ranger Power.

The company submitted a site plan for the project back on December 19th.

If it’s approved the Township would see financial benefits in the form of personal property tax revenue for the solar equipment, along with grants and contributions from the company.

Opponents site environmental impacts, along with a potential reduction in property values, as their primary concerns.
