Authorities Identify Victims Of Friday Tornado In Union City

Branch County authorities have identified the three victims from Friday’s tornado near Union City.
Authorities say the bodies of 63-year-old William Andrew Akers,
54-year-old Keri Ann Johnson and 65-year-old Penni Jo Guthrie were all recovered in the area of Prairie Rose Lane & Tuttle Drive, at Union Lake.
Funeral Arrangements are pending.
Video on social media showed the tornado as it struck along the shore of the lake. There was also damage in the village of Union City. The National Weather Service has rated the storm as an EF-3 with winds in excess of 150 miles per hour.
First responders and community members have been working since the severe weather hit on recovery and cleanup efforts.
Funeral services are pending for the three victims in Branch County.
Authorities said the storms also claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy near Edwardsburg in Cass County.
The National Weather Service had issued a Tornado Warning for parts of Hillsdale County on Friday evening as severe thunderstorms moved through the region. No major damage was reported in Hillsdale County.
