The Hillsdale County Board of Commissioners was forced to adjourn its regularly scheduled meeting this morning, after a large group of area residents turned out to voice their opposition to the appointment of a second County Commissioner to the board of Lifeways Community Mental Health.
The crowd far exceeded the maximum number of occupants for the boardroom at the County Office Building on McCollum Street in downtown Hillsdale.
Hillsdale City Councilman Matt Bentley was in attendance. He contacted authorities to report the occupancy violation. Bentley is connected to Citizens for Hillsdale County. The group has
opposed the County Commissioners and their potential support for backing a bond to construct a new facility for Lifeways Mental Health.
Today’s agenda included a resolution to appoint Commissioner Kevin Collins to the Lifeways Board.
Members of Citizens for Hillsdale County campaigned to bring a large number of residents to the meeting to voice their opposition to the appointment.
Mark Wiley, who is chairman of the County Board of Commissioners, currently serves on the Lifeways board.
He told WCSR News that today’s adjournment left several important pieces of county business undone.
He said the Commissioners will meet again on March 24th. There’s no word yet on where the meeting will be held.
