
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is urging residents to be cautious when visiting outdoor sites across the state, after recent heavy rain and storms that affected all 83 counties.
DNR crews are checking parks and trails to decide which areas are safe to reopen. Some sites remain closed due to storm damage. Visitors are advised to check Michigan.gov/DNRClosures for the latest updates.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer activated the State Emergency Operations Center on April 14th to monitor weather issues.
Kristen Kosick, DNR Parks and Recreation chief, said crews are working around the clock to assess damage and reopen safe sites.
The DNR warns outdoor enthusiasts to watch for fallen trees, debris, and flooding signs. They advise against boating, fishing, or swimming in floodwaters, which may be contaminated or dangerous. Floodwaters can also hide electrical lines and cause injuries.
