A Lenawee County man has been released from custody without charges after his wife vanished during a sailing trip in the Bahamas.
Brian Hooker, of Onsted, was released Monday night following his arrest last Wednesday.
His wife, 55-year-old Lynette Hooker, was reported missing on April 5th. Brian Hooker told investigators that his wife of 25 years fell overboard in rough waters and disappeared.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force said they consulted with local prosecutors before deciding to release him. Officials said that no charges will be filed at this time while the investigation continues.
According to NBC News, Hooker’s Attorney, Terrel Butler, said authorities “Had no evidence and they had no choice but to release” her client. Butler added that Hooker “unequivocally denies any wrongdoing.”
The disappearance sparked an urgent search that has now turned into a complex legal investigation. It remains unclear if Hooker is allowed to leave the Bahamas or if he must stay in the country.
