A police chase that began in Branch County ended with the arrest of a driver just over the Indiana state line.
Branch County Sheriff Fred Blankenship said deputies tried to pull over a car just before 10:00 pm, Monday, on Fiske Road near Newton Road. The driver sped away, leading authorities on a high-speed chase.
The vehicle headed south on Fremont Road, west on Copeland Road, and then south onto I-69. The chase continued into Steuben County, Indiana, where Indiana State Police deployed stop sticks near the I-80/90 on-ramp at I-69 to disable the vehicle.
After the car was stopped, the driver attempted to flee on foot. However, deputies and Indiana State Police officers quickly caught up to him. The driver, a 39-year-old Coldwater man, was arrested and taken into custody by Indiana State Police.
Charges are pending in Michigan.
Officers from the Quincy Police Department, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, and Branch County Central Dispatch also assisted in the chase.
